First Baptist Church in Ghana
Reflections Day Eight

On the Bumpy Road to Elevation

Ma'Dwoo (good evening). Today was a great day! Our day began with our going to see the 3-acre school founded by Charles Yeboah, a member of the Asokwa Baptist Church. The school, named the International Community School, was marvelous! This school accepts children of all races and currently has 600 children attending. The grade levels are kindergarten through ninth grade. There were many teachers of different races and backgrounds. Being on the school grounds was an amazing feeling. It reminded us of watching the special of Oprah when she created her school, "Leadership Academy for Girls." Dr. Yeboah may not be as famous as Ms. Winfrey or may not have as much money/cedis as Ms. Winfrey but he has changed the face of many multi-cultural children by building this school. We believe that his steadfast commitment to God in creating this school has not only set a foundation for Ghana's future but created a legacy of education for generations to follow.

One would think that if our day began that way we would have had a wonderful rest of the day. Well, here is where the adventure begins. We left the school in Kumasi to travel 4-5 hours back to Accra. With nothing to eat and little water, we rode in a van which felt similar to “Kingda Ka”, the highest and fastest roller coaster at Six Flags/Great Adventure. These roads were unlike the potholes on Route 18. These roads were dirt roads with big ditches in the middle of the road. Picture this: a long road similiar to South Middlebush ,but 4 hours of South Middlebush! So imagine how we felt for 4-5 hours. We felt like "bumps on a log”.

Finally, we arrived at the Royal La Palm Beach Resort. Once there, we had to hurry so we could attend church that evening at the International Central Gospel Church. Pastor Soaries preached about elevating your faith and taking your "normal faith to astonishing faith." Over 50 young adults gave their lives to Christ and for that, our ride on the bumpy roads allowed us to realize that in order to elevate your faith, you must travel bumpy roads.
