New Member Process

During the Invitation to Discipleship (doors of church are opened) you are invited to come down the front of the church where the Deacons and Deaconesses will introduce you to the church body. After service is over you will meet with the Deacons to complete personal information forms, receive information regarding New Member Orientation classes and get Designated Friend assignment.

Below are the ways in which you may become a member of First Baptist Church and the steps that should be followed after announcing your faith:

  1. Accept Jesus Christ as your very own personal Savior.
  2. Announce your faith in one of the four categories:
    • Candidate for Baptism
    • Christian Experience (already baptized by immersion)
    • Membership Restoration
    • Watchcare (non-voting member)
  3. Complete Four New Members Orientation Classes.
  4. Receive the ordinance of baptism by immersion, if appropriate
  5. Receive the Right Hand of Fellowship.

The Designated Friend (DF) is a church member who has volunteers to assist you through the New Member Process and help you become acclimated to First Baptist Church. The DF is there to remind you of class schedules, answer questions regarding the church and invite you to the New Member Service for Baptism and The Right Hand of Fellowship.

The four mandatory New Member Orientation Classes must be completed in consecutive order and must be completed by the 3rd Sunday of the month (no exceptions) in order you to be Baptized and / or receive The Right Hand of Fellowship at the New Member Service on the 4th Saturday of the month.

After completing your orientation and accepting the "Right Hand of Fellowship" we welcome and encourage you to:

  • Become involved in Stewardship by serving and by giving
  • Become involved in Fellowship by serving in the Small Groups Ministry
