YOUTH COURSES

February 15th-April 5th

11:15 am-12:30 pm

This creative and faith-filled journey is designed for children and youth in grades K-5 and 6-12. Each week, scholars will dive into a different metaphor for God—such as Mother, Father, Shepherd, Rock, and Potter—using scripture as a foundation to explore God’s character and how He relates to us. Through engaging lessons that combine Bible study with literacy skills like understanding metaphors, similes, and imagery, youth will learn how to recognize and use descriptive language to deepen their understanding of God. Along the way, students will be encouraged to think faithfully, yet creatively and innovatively, about how they can relate to and describe God in their own lives. The goal of this curriculum is not only to build biblical literacy but also to foster a sense of wonder and connection with God’s multifaceted nature, equipping students with appropriate and meaningful language to express their faith.

ADULT COURSES

Have you ever considered why the Bible describes God as a Shepherd, a Father, a Rock, or even Living Water? What Did You Call Me?!” is a thought-provoking course designed to help adults explore the rich and creative ways Scripture uses metaphors to reveal who God is and how God relates to us. Each week, we’ll focus on a different image or metaphor for God, unpacking its meaning and discovering how these descriptions can deepen our understanding of God’s character. This course invites you to think faithfully and imaginatively about the language we use to describe God, allowing room for biblical truths and personal reflection. By the end, you’ll not only gain fresh perspectives on Scripture, but you will also learn how to express your faith in ways that feel both meaningful and authentic.

Min. Angela Pearson, Rev. Dr. Julia Presley, Rev. Justin Henderson

This powerful course examines the enduring legacy of Black resistance to white supremacy, highlighting the diverse strategies employed to combat dehumanization and fight for justice. From the transformative power of faith and education to the bold use of armed resistance, participants will explore how Black communities have leveraged “bibles, books, and guns” in the struggle for liberation. The course will explore the vital role of the Black church, social and fraternal organizations, and the resilience of those who dared to resist oppression in all its forms. Through engaging discussions and historical analysis, this course will celebrate the spirit of defiance that continues to shape the fight for equality and dignity.
