Position Overview:
The Minister of Discipleship and Community Life serves as a spiritual shepherd and visionary strategist for First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens (FBCLG). This role ensures that every member, new disciple, and visitor has a clear, prayerful, and intentional path to grow in their walk with Christ and become fully engaged in the life of the church.
This minister will design and oversee a comprehensive discipleship plan that fosters spiritual formation and community connection. In partnership with the Senior Pastor, staff, and ministry leaders, the Minister of Discipleship and Community Life will build sustainable models for discipleship, develop theological and spiritual training resources, and strengthen the fellowship life of the church through meaningful engagement opportunities.
The successful candidate will combine a pastoral heart with administrative excellence—guiding people toward maturity in Christ while also establishing systems, processes, and structures that ensure no disciple is overlooked.
Primary Responsibilities:
Discipleship & Spiritual Formation
- Develop and implement a holistic discipleship pathway that leads people from new membership to spiritual maturity and service.
- Foster an environment of transformation by creating spaces for prayer, study, fellowship, and accountability.
- Support and help disciples understand the benefits of being part of a small group ministry that promotes relational care and growth.
- Design and oversee discipleship curriculum, ensuring theological depth and accessibility for all age groups.
- Provide theological training for leaders and teachers to equip them for faithful and effective discipleship.
Community Life & Engagement
- Create sustainable models and opportunities for connection that integrate new disciples and members into the life of the church.
- Oversee the New Disciples Process, ensuring smooth transitions from right hand of fellowship to active participation in ministries and community life.
- Support fellowship and community-building initiatives that strengthen the Christian faith.
- Collaborate with ministries to integrate discipleship and engagement practices across the church.
Ministry, Center & People Management
- Supervise, equip, and support leaders of ministries related to discipleship and community life.
- Partner with the Centers of the church to align their activities with the overall discipleship strategy.
- Build volunteer pipelines that recruit, train, and sustain leaders for discipleship, and community life activities.
- Provide pastoral care and spiritual support to ministry leaders and members under your care.
Administration & Systems
- Develop and maintain workflows, processes, and reporting structures that track discipleship engagement and growth.
- Ensure accurate data entry and reporting in Church Community Builder (CCB) to monitor membership, participation, and discipleship progress.
- Work with staff to evaluate, measure, and report on the effectiveness of discipleship programs and initiatives.
- Establish annual goals and ministry benchmarks in alignment with the vision of the Senior Pastor and church leadership.

Qualifications:
- A clear call to Christian ministry and a deep commitment to Jesus Christ.
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master of Divinity (M.Div.), Christian Education, or related theological training required.
- 5+ years of pastoral, discipleship, or Christian education ministry experience, preferably in a congregational setting.
- Strong theological foundation with the ability to design and deliver curriculum that nurtures faith and equips leaders.
- Demonstrated leadership ability in ministry development, team building, and people management.
- Excellent communication, teaching, and preaching skills.
- Proficiency in church management systems (CCB or equivalent) and willingness to use technology for ministry effectiveness.
Working Conditions: The schedule includes Sundays and onsite hours during the week. Hours will vary based on programs and events. Incumbent has the ability to flex hours with approval from the Executive Director within the 40-hour work week; 10% travel (domestic and international).
